“Tradition and Innovation : Bookbinding across the Islamic world”
Recent studies have brought to light that within the tradition, very specific methods, materials and structural elements were used to produce signature bindings. In this lecture, both the traditional and innovative techniques that bookbinders used will be addressed, and as the value of these artefacts will be highlighted, it will become clear how important it is that we understand these items and preserve them for future generations. Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur – Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia (IAMM) is pleased to announce the launching of our latest exhibition “The Tatars – Muslims in the Republic of Poland”. This exhibition which will be officially open to public on 11th April 2017 is a collaborative effort between the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia and the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Kuala Lumpur. In conjunction with the exhibition, a special lecture entitle ‘Islam and Relationship with the Muslim lands in Poland: A Short Historical Survey from 900 until current times’ will be delivered by Prof. Dr. Ataullah Bogdan Kopanski during the launching on 11th April 2017 at 3.00 pm.
